CASES of men who have reported their partners for domestic abuse in Windhoek has been rising since 2015 when 274 cases were recorded, compared to 370 incidents in 2017.
In 2016, the statistics obtained from the Namibian Police show that 305 men sought help from the wrath of their partners. In 2015, four men claimed that they were raped; three did the same in 2016; and five reported having been raped in 2017. Most of the men who are enduring gender-based violence at their homes or in relationships said police officers often laugh at them when they go to report the abuse. Deputy commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi confirmed yesterday that they have received complaints before from male victims of gender-based violence who would have been mocked by some police officers.
