POVERTY eradication minister Zephania Kameeta says one of the strategic interventions in his ministry's blueprint on wealth redistribution and poverty eradication is ensuring access to basic social services.

Cabinet last Tuesday approved the implementation plan of the national blueprint on wealth redistribution and poverty eradication which was drafted by the poverty eradication ministry. Speaking at the official handover of boreholes in the Nehale Lya Mpingana constituency in the Oshikoto region on Thursday, Kameeta said the ministry, through the recently adopted blueprint, was committed to ensuring that all Namibians have access to basic services such as water and sanitation, amongst others. “The role of our ministry is to ensure that all Namibians have access to basic services by working closely with relevant stakeholders for the effective implementation of programmes aimed at the provision of human rights-based services,” he explained. The boreholes cost the ministry N$522 000, which Kameeta said was taken from donated funds. He, however, said the boreholes must serve as an example that the ministry is committed to lead “the war that will ensure poverty is eradicated in Namibia”.
