HENTIES Bay mayor Herman Honeb made a first appearance in the Swakopmund Magistrate's Court yesterday on charges pertaining to contraventions of the Stock Theft Act.
Honeb is charged with receiving a livestock carcass without a permit or identification documentation. Last Friday, he was arrested after the police at Erongo received a tip-off from members of the public that he was selling meat to the community at night. Erongo crime investigations coordinator Erastus Iikuyu said Honeb allegedly accepted delivery of a full beef carcass without any document or identification between sunset and sunrise, and sold it for N$4 000. Conducting business in that manner is a contravention of the Stock Theft Act, he said. The animal was estimated to be worth N$8 000.
