Calling for Walvis Bay mentors

A GROUP of young people at Walvis Bay have started a mentoring programme at the harbour town, which they hope will eventually be rolled out to the rest of the country.

The four young mentors – Ndapandula Claasen, Ester Joseph, Elizabeth Andreas and John Paul Shafetango – say over the past five years, they have been monitoring the development of teenagers at the town, and are worried about the social evils some youths engage in. According to the group, media reports about teenage pregnancies, baby dumping, drug and alcohol abuse, school failures and abortions among the youth have been a source of concern for the town and the Erongo region as a whole.
