DESPITE the Welwitschias' struggles in the Supersport Rugby Challenge, Namibian rugby is progressing well and on track to reach new goals come the 2019 World Cup.

At a press conference on Thursday, national team head coach Phil Davies said despite their poor recent results, they were still on track to realise Namibia's long term goals. “We want to be ranked 18th in the world by 2019 and we want to win our first match at the World Cup. We are currently ranked 19th, but at the Nations Cup we will play Spain who are ranked 18th and Russia who are ranked 20th, so it's possible,” he said. Namibia will play Spain and Russia, as well as Emerging Italy at the Nations Cup in Uruguay next month and Davies said they had the potential of winning the tournament.
