Mother overdoses children, self with ARVs

A 28-year-old woman tried to kill her two children and herself over the weekend.

Erongo police acting crime investigations coordinator Erastus Iikuyu said the woman allegedly gave her two daughters – aged one year and nine months and six years – a mixture of antiretroviral medication dissolved in water in an attempt to kill them.

She also attempted to commit suicide by taking the same concoction, Iikuyu said.

The motive seems to have been that the children's father allegedly does not want to support them financially.

The woman informed a relative via SMS what she had done.
