Erongo to evacuate cattle to Omaheke

Drought-stricken cattle farmers in Erongo are allowed to evacuate their animals to the Omaheke region with immediate effect, thanks to a deal struck between the two regions' councils.

The Erongo Regional Council will assist farmers who may not have the means to do so with transport, according to governor Cleophas Mutjavikua. He said while commercial farmers are trying to assist subsistence farmers where possible, public institutions are not coming to the table to help, forcing desperate farmers to push through other farms and stay in roadside corridors.

To date Rössing donated N$100 000, Erongo RED N$50 000 and Bannerman N$15 000. The money will be used specifically to purchase fodder for the affected cattle.
