The National Council on Thursday held a public hearing on the Liquor Amendment Bill in Swakopmund, after an outcry from the public regarding bars operating on residential areas next to churches, hospitals and schools.

Suggestions were made for the municipality to avail land for bars to operate in one area.

This report will be addressed in parliament on the 20th of October this year.

National Council member, Peter Kazongominya concluded the following: ‘’Shebeens are causing havoc in our community.’’
