The woman accused of suffocating her daughter (3) on Monday at Mile 108, appeared in the Swakopmund Magistrate's Court for murder yesterday.

The single mother of two daughters, Zenobia Seas (32), allegedly killed her daughter, Ava Owoses, at an isolated beach spot where she also tried to commit suicide by burning herself and the toddler's body in the car.

Seas, who works for the Husab Uranium Mine, was advised to formally apply for bail, although the state indicated that this was not a good idea because of the nature of the alleged crime and the ongoing investigations.

She, however, applied for legal aid, and will be held in custody at the Narraville police station holding cells at Walvis Bay, where women awaiting trial are detained.
