The Okombahe olive oil community garden that was launched last year with the aim of promoting food security and employment has been affected by water scarcity. This was revealed by the Erongo Chief Regional Officer yesterday in Swakopmund.
In the meantime, the Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Forestry is in the process of drilling holes for possible water areas in the Daures constituency.
Olive is harvested mostly for oil production, which helps fight high levels of cholesterol, treats sunburn and reduces strokes, especially amongst elderly people.
Natalia /Goagoses, the Chief Regional Officer of the Erongo Region concluded the following: ‘’The project is ongoing; it’s actually aimed to benefit the community. Is one of the activities that are responding to our development plans.’’
