Head of human resources component of the Namibian police, Commissioner Abed Kashihakumwa was arrested and appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate's Court yesterday to face charges of corruption. The arrest was made in connection with the appointment of Sakaria Ashipala, an individual with a criminal record which is also Kashihakumwa's brother-in-law. The Anti-Corruption Commission said in a statement, “Ashipala was discharged from the Namibian Police in October 2010 after he was convicted of theft. Indications show that his fingerprints were never obtained, thus his criminal record was not reflected on the Namibian Police Criminal Record Centre.” The allegations shone light upon multiple factors in this case claiming that Kashihakumwa was aware of his brother-in-law's previous conviction.
