United Africa Group wants SSC plot back

THE United Africa Group has demanded the return of a plot it sold to the Social Security Commission in Windhoek's central business district, and says failure to do so would see the parties in court. The plot - about 4 750 square metres (around half-a-football field) - is situated along Independence Avenue between Fidel Castro Street and Sam Nujoma Drive. It was previously known as OK Parking. The plot is sandwiched between the new First National Bank head office and the Hilton Hotel, with the Supreme Court in the background in Windhoek. The SSC bought the land from the United Africa Group (UAG) in 2013 for N$47 million for the construction of its new head office estimated to cost N$700 million, which would have included space for renting to businesses and for residential occupancy. Last month, however, the commission made a U-turn, opting to sell the plot to private companies, saying it is not easily accessible.
