Members of Constituency Development Committees (CDCs) should be elected and not appointed by councillors of constituencies as is currently the case, Chairperson of the National Council (NC) Margaret Mensah-Williams has suggested.

Mensah-Williams made the proposal on Thursday during her town hall meeting at Eenhana in the Ohangwena Region in response to demands for balanced community representation in the CDCs. Some of the young people present asked that younger people be included in the committees to influence decisions on issues of relevance to the youth. The NC chairperson also said she would like to see two young people and representatives for people with disabilities on the committees.
