The Minister of Works and Transport yesterday officiated the upgrading to a dual carriageway of Main Road 44 (behind Dune 7) between Swakopmund and Walvis Bay at the ground breaking ceremony at the Swakop River Bridge.
Honourable Alpheus !Naruseb said that Namibia, positioned as the gateway for imports and exports in the SADC region, must put reliable transportation infrastructure in place to meet the requirements and demands of the 21st century. He added that safe and efficient roads will offer various opportunities to strengthen the competitive advantage in the region.
The project, estimated at about N$ 958.4 million will take approximately 3 years to complete.
The Minister concluded the following: ‘’The consistent economic growth requires sufficient investment in the enablers of the economy, such as transport and logistics infrastructure, in order to achieve the full potential and resulting benefits of the sector.’’
