SWAKOPMUND is abuzz with anticipation as it prepares to host a historic first JSKA World Karate Championships from 15 to 16 July courtesy of the Namibia Shotokan Karate Academy.

Hosting the championships is a major milestone for Namibia, who will be welcoming teams from Japan, Scotland, England, Germany, Switzerland, Angola, Botswana, South Africa, Mozambique, the Czech Republic, Kenya and Palestine. The Namibia Shotokan Karate Academy has attended every edition of the championships, held every two years, since 2004, with the exception of 2008, and amassed over 100 medals. They won 12 medals in Pretoria, South Africa during the 2004 event; 15 in Manhattan, USA in 2006; five in Portimao, Portugal in 2010; 26 in Cancun, Mexico in 2012; and an incredible 56 in Terni, Italy in 2014.
