THE Teachers Union of Namibia yesterday said it is illegal for the government to force those who did not report for duty on 16 June to fill in leave forms.
The education ministry declared 16 June, which was supposed to be a school holiday to commemorate the Day of the African Child, as a normal school day. Ndji-zu-vee Haakuria, the union's vice president, told a press conference in Windhoek they have recieved reports from some teachers who have been asked to fill in the forms. Haakuria further said if teachers are forced to fill in leave forms, they will take the matter up with the relevant authorities, such as the Office of the Prime Minister.
