The Ministry of Mines and energy yesterday held the first of four public meetings regarding the developing of an air quality overarching management plan for the Uranium and other industries within the Erongo region at Rossmund golf resort outside Swakopmund.

The plan forms part of the strategic environmental management project that aims to get an understanding of air quality in the Erongo region and to establish mitigation measures that can be implemented by the various role players. Air pollution has damaging effects such as lung cancer, Liver, Kidney and brain damage. This week will see public meetings take place in Walvis Bay, Henties Bay and Arandis.

Hanlie Liebenberg-Enslin from Airshed Planning Professionals concluded the following: ‘’The objective was to involve the public in this project. At the end of the day you will be exposed to Air pollution that’s why we need your input in creating the Air quality guideline.’’
