ERONGO RED last week launched an ambitious project to bring electricity to 601 houses in five rural villages at the Erongo region's Daures constituency.
The N$12 million rural electrification project should light up houses at Okombahe (245), Omatjete (158), Otjohorongo (45), Anixab (41) and Tubusis (112) by September already. The contractors appointed for these projects are C-Power Investment CC for Anixab and Tubusis, NBT Quality Services for Omatjete and Otjohorongo, and Walters Electrical for Okombahe. Subsequently, 'Power to the People' projects were launched to ensure that all households have electricity by 2020. This specific chapter of the project, which was aimed at lighting up the rural region from 2013 to 2015, saw electricity being supplied to 165 houses at Uis, 32 at Karibib, 71 at Usakos, 20 at Henties Bay, 51 at Omaruru and 11 at Otjimbingwe. Besides the latest project, the electricity supplier has also identified localities in the peri-urban areas of Karibib, Omaruru and Usakos to be connected. Engineers are busy with the planning and design, and the projects will soon go out on tender. Here, over 650 households, including peri-urban households, are expected to be connected to the grid.
