THE Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has uncovered corruption and fraud amounting to nearly N$6 million at Wesbank Transport at Walvis Bay, resulting in the arrest and prosecution of four suspects.
The suspects made their first appearance in the Swakopmund Regional Court this week on 444 corruption and fraud charges, and were granted bail varying between N$30 000 and N$50 000 each. Their case was postponed to 1 July. According to a statement issued by the ACC, an investigation into the matter was already launched by the agency in October 2011. The allegations were that between 2008 and 2012, former employees of Wesbank Transport Gavilan Klazen (operations manager) and Carl Marx (administration controller) misled their employer by manipulating the company’s computer systems to commit fraud of N$5 968 716.
