Attorney General: Court not only for sentencing

The Attorney General of Namibia Sackey Shangala last week said that that people should not only think the court’s sole porpose is for sentencing.
He said this at a breakfast meeting organised by the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) in Swakopmund.
He pointed out that the court deal with private law matters too, and in particular, commercial and mercantile matters,arising through the interaction between private citizens and governmental authorities.
The Attorney General concluded that ‘’the efforts of the Deputy-Chief Justice/Judge president to further introduce specialised division, such as a commercial court such as family court to deal with family law matters. The Namibian justice system has had a positive effect upon the economic development and will continue to play a role in the good governance of the country.’’
