Namibia to auction three rhinos

THE environment ministry is putting up three black rhinos for trophy hunting, despite a raging debate against it.

In an advertisement placed in The Namibian yesterday, the ministry announced that the three black rhinoceros-es are available during the current hunting season, which ends in November 2016. The Namibian trophy hunting season opens on 1 February, and closes on 30 November each year. Environment minister Pohamba Shifeta told The Namibian yesterday that they are going ahead with the trophy hunting because conservancies had their own anti−poaching units while generating income from the proceeds of the exercise.
