THE number of children with disabilities aged from zero to four who are not attending early childhood development programmes increased from 3 359 in 2001 to 5 135 in 2011.
The figures are based on the results of the 2011 census which was released in Windhoek yesterday by statistician general Alex Shimuafeni. The report’s executive summary presented by senior NSA statistician on population census and demographic survey, Alina Namupala, said the number of people living with disabilities increased from 42 932 in 1991 to 85 567 in 2001 and 98 413 in 2011. There are 51 125 females living with disabilities, and 48 288 males. The report further shows that there are 2 595 children with disabilities aged three to five years, and they were not attending ECD programmes in Namibia.
