A WINDHOEK taxi driver is on the run after allegedly shooting and killing a passenger who is believed to have jumped from the moving taxi in Katutura on Saturday, police said.

According to police spokesperson Slogan Matheus, the deceased has not yet been formally identified, neither have the next of kin been informed. “But personal documents found on the deceased indicate that he could be 22 years of age. It is further alleged that two men jumped out of a moving taxi and started running.

The taxi driver fired at them, hitting one of the men on the lower back whilst running, fell and was pronounced dead on the scene.

The other managed to flee unhurt,” Matheus said. The police spokesperson further stated that the taxi driver then fled the scene, and is still at large. It is not yet known why the men jumped from the moving vehicle, and why the taxi driver fired at them, but police investigations are underway.
