THE chances of the Kora All Africa Music Awards ever happening in Namibia are fading every day with the event’s country representative, businessman Tonata Shiimi, saying he has nothing to do with it anymore.
It is not only Shiimi who is distancing himself from Ernest Adjovi and the Kora, but also Florence Vangah, the Windhoek Kora office administrator, and the South African communications expert Marang Setshwaelo, whose company does public relations for the awards. Shiimi was the point person for the awards which were supposed to have been held on 20 March this year but were postponed indefinitely after the Namibia Tourism Board had paid the founder, Ernest Adjovi, N$21 million in promotional fees. The weekly paper Confidente said, whilst quoting finance minister Calle Schlettwein about two weeks ago, that Adjovi was also paid N$8 million, on top of the N$21 million.
