300 pistols seized during Operation Omake

POLICE have seized 305 illegal pistols, 2 011 rounds of ammunition and drugs with a street value of N$1 747 728 in the ongoing Operation Omake since last year.

Safety and security minister Charles Namoloh told parliament yesterday that the police also seized 24 rifles and 10 guns. A further 42 firearms which had been used in violent crimes were also confiscated. About 2 577 various kinds of weapons were seized during police stop−and−search operations, while 1 308 suspects were arrested for robberies, shoplifting, assault and housebreaking. Namoloh said 1 173 illegal immigrants were also arrested during the period, and that so far, 50 riverbeds and crime−prone areas have been cleared.
