Mudslide kills at least 15 in India's remote northeast

Police say torrential rains triggered a mudslide in India's remote northeast bordering China, killing at least 15 people.

Police officer Nabin Payeng says the mudslide swept through a labor camp at a construction site in Tawang, a tourist spot in Arunachal Pradesh early on Friday.

Rescuers found 15 bodies and were searching for two other workers feared buried in the debris. Three workers escaped from the camp at an altitude of more than 3 000m, Payeng said.

Landslides are common in the area, but usually during the monsoon season, which runs from June through September.
