Buckets Toilets to be eliminated in 2017

Minister of Urban and Rural Development Sophia Shanigwa last week said that the bucket toilet system will be eradicated and 50 000 rural toilets constructed by 2017.
She was addressing regional governors, chairpersons of regional councils, Mayors of Municipalities, town and village councilors ,chief regional and executive officers as well as local authorities at an annual retreat in Swakopmund.
As laid out in the Harambee Prosperity Plan announced earlier this month the Minister of Urban and Rural Development is also expected to deliver at least 5 000 new houses and at 6 500 new residential plots by the 2016/2017 financial year.
The Minister concluded the following: ‘’This is a daunting task, which requires our joint action and contribution as a sector and at all the levels, we are entrusted with the responsibility of initiating, mobilizing and driving national efforts towards finding solution to burning issues of access and affordability of residential and business land, housing sanitation and descent living conditions of the Namibian people.’’
