Woman dies in dentist’s parking lot after having her teeth pulled

A 46-year-old woman who had 16 teeth removed due to an infection died in her dentist’s parking lot in Michigan on Friday.

April Walters was accompanied by her sister, Crystal Cutright, to Southfield Dental Care to have her teeth pulled because of an infection.

A dental assistant who took Walters' vital signs was concerned when her high heart rate did not lower.

Dr Rana Rabban, the dentist, assured the situation was fine and proceeded with the extraction.

Towards the end of the procedure, Walters’ heart rate soared to 130 bpm after having 16 of 18 teeth pulled.

The dentist eventually told Cutright to take her sister to the hospital to have her heart checked.

But when the two got to the car, Cutright said Walters struggled to breathe and passed out. The mother-of-one was later declared dead in hospital.

Walters reportedly also suffered from other ailments including asthma, high blood pressure, diabetes and sarcoidosis and had to carry an oxygen tank.

Dr Rana Rabban has not given comment.

A GoFundMe page was created by the family in order to raise funds for Walters’ funeral. Over $2 000 was raised within 4 days.

The family awaits the results of an autopsy and an investigation is underway.
