About 50 000 crimes related to gender-based violence (GBV) were reported over the past three years, with the Khomas region being the 'capital' of such crime, according to statistics released by the head of the Namibian Police's GBV division, deputy commissioner Johanna Situde.
She revealed these statistics at a workshop on the 'Namibianisation' of the World Health Organisation's (WHO) clinical handbook for the healthcare of women who have been subjected to GBV.
According to her, substance abuse was a major contributor to GBV-related crimes.
