Chris Smith an 80 year old man started walking from Windhoek on the 1 March and reached Swakopmund yesterday by 12:30 in awareness of Crohn’s disease. Chron’s disease is an inflammatory disease of the intestines, especially the colon and ileum.
His wife died of Chron’s disease while his two daughters have also been diagnosed with the disease. The main purpose of the marathon walk was to create awareness and raise funds to help those that can’t afford treatment.
Chris Smith himself concluded the following:
"I realised there are so many people that can’t effort treatment. I first intended to walk to Cape Town but my family disagreed so I decided to walk to Swakopmund. Every day I pick up screws and nuts and it’s like I’m on holiday."
