First ever solar power cold storage officially launched

The Namibia business cold store facility using solar power was officially launched on the 25 September in Walvisbay and is worth N$43.5 million dollar.

The environmentally friendly cold store facility features 1150 solar panels and currently stores 1 566 pallets .All fish and marine related products such as mussels and shrimp harvested in Walvis Bay based companies will be accommodated in this facility.

’We are extremely proud that the establishment of the green cold store facility is the first for Namibia and the SADC region. The fishing industry as one of the largest contributors to the Namibia economy, the industry’s success can be attributed to many factors, such as our country prudent resources management systems’’ concluded the Minister of Fisheries Bernard Esau.
